Free workshop on estate planning and elder law in Birmingham on October 2 at 2pm

We wanted to let you know we are having a free workshop (“The 7 Threats to Your Estate Plan”) at our Birmingham office on October 2, 2014, at 2 pm.

This is a free workshop where we are confident you will learn a lot and have some fun doing so.  🙂

The subjects of estate planning and elder law are not normally the most exciting topics to think about but they are important.

And we can discuss these in a small workshop setting in a relaxed way.

“Is this workshop right for me?”

We have consumers of all ages attend our workshops as well as professionals such as financial advisors, insurance agents, estate planning attorneys, long term care professionals, and others.

This particular workshop is designed to apply to everyone because it gives you the foundational knowledge needed to then be able to make good decisions about your own estate plan.  And for financial planners, CPAs, etc. this gives you an excellent overview of how estate planning and elder law fit together which is helpful when this subject comes up with your clients.

“What will I learn at the workshop?”

Here are some of the items we will cover — not in a dry boring legal way but in an interactive way using lots of interesting (and maybe even some funny) stories….  These are threats to you staying in control of your life and your assets:

  • Danger of losing control and access over your assets . . . when you least expect it.
  • Not knowing the law . . . even the law you think you know.
  • The identities of predators to your assets . . . and I promise some of these will surprise you.
  • Your health fails . . . when you don’t expect it to.
  • Failing to plan . . . when you can plan as opposed to when you no longer can plan.
  • Not working with the right advisors . . . and how do you find the right advisors anyway?
  • Not knowing the true cost of not having the right plan in place.

Of course, we are not just going to talk about the negative.  We will show you how to avoid all these threats so that you can be confident and comfortable facing whatever challenges life throws your way in the short term and the long term.

You’ll leave the seminar with a good, practical, understanding of wills, trusts, Medicaid, VA benefits, etc.  My approach is to take the complicated and make it simple and understandable — not in a theoretical way but in a practical useful way.

We aren’t selling anything — you can’t even become a client at this workshop — instead we have one purpose.  To help you learn about your options so you can discover the best approach for you to take with your planning.

Finally, this is a great workshop whether you are young, older, married, single, etc.  Even if something we cover doesn’t directly apply to you, it will apply to someone you care about.

“How do I sign up for this workshop?”

You can fill out our contact form here and let us know you want to attend this workshop or you can call us at 205-879-2447 and ask to speak to Carolyn who will reserve a spot for you.

We purposely keep these workshops small so that we can have plenty of time for questions and interaction — I don’t do lectures.  🙂

We have room for about 10 folks and as of the time of this article there are only a few spots left so let us know if you would like to attend so we can make sure you have a spot.

Thanks and we hope to see you at 2pm!

John Watts
